A Not-So-Bad Guide to Organizing Your Inventory

#Register first, add details later

Sometimes it's a burden to find pictures, so don't let that slow you down. Register now, and followup again later for those tricky, old ones!

#.backup things you don't want exposed, but still can't delete

Folders starting with a period are automatically ignored. Use them to sort and organize items that should be collected next to your record items, like .box/ and .backup/.

#Import your inventory cache once in a while

Sometimes you're in a big shopping trip and you forget to register an item you've already prepped! Importing your inventory cache every few weeks will catch the little things you've missed.

It'll also sync and update subfolders you might've adjusted!

#Comb through your tags for things used only once!

Tags are superior to folders, when it comes to organizing! BUT, they're not that helpful when they're only used once.

Go through your least-shared tags once in a while to see if they're truly valuable. Maybe you find something you misspelled?

#Have a set of "template" folders for your most-used organization scheme

Frequently, I'm just including #primlink, creator name, and an image. So I keep the folder structure handy in a dedicated templates directory that I can copy from!

I keep the values empty, so I can rename and paste in whatever I need, on the fly.

#Master your Viewer's quirks

There are secret invetory hotkeys and behaviors in the Firstorm and Official SL viewers! Learn them.

• F2 is the hotkey for "rename this folder/item".
• The clipboard for text is different than the clipboard for folders! You can have your template folders copied AND still modify text at the same time. When you paste, it'll be the folders or the text, depending on what you're pasting into!
